Chapter five

Silver paid the driver then exited the cab not far from his house. He decided to stop by the store on his way home to get a few things he needed for dinner. He was in a good mood and unable to hide it. His mother's benefits had kicked in, and they were getting better care with a nurse that visited four times a week. The kids were doing better, and their home was filled with laughter once again. Silver was in such a good mood that he decorated the house and even dressed for Halloween and passed out candy to the trick-or-treaters who stopped by.

Getting the things he needed, Silver started his walk home, not minding the cold and scent of snow in the air one bit. Things might be looking up, but Silver wasn't fooled into thinking things were perfect. They still had hospital bills to deal with, and his mom's health could turn at any minute. Until then, Silver was going to bask in the happiness and prepare for his future and college that started after the holidays. He still had one year to complete before he could take the MCATs and start medical school.
