"Did I grab the wrong sample?" he muttered, leaning back. He grabbed the vial, saw Parker's name on the label, then returned to the microscope. The sample was still changing. Still multiplying. "What the vraka. I need to test this again."

Hinato moved to another microscope, went through the motions of setting up the sample, and examined it not once but three more times. Each time it multiplied, changing, becoming something else, as if experiencing a metamorphosis right there on the slide. He leaned back in his chair and stared into space, turning the lollipop stick absently in the corner of his mouth, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

"Did the serum change?" He shook his head, answering himself before the question fully formed. "No, no, no...it's the same formula I've been using all this time." He tapped his fingers on the counter. "Or did the serum change his blood? No." He leaned forward, bracing his elbows on the lab bench. "No, I would have picked that up on the first test."

Hinato's mind was whirling with questions when a thought came to him. He prepared the supplies he needed, rolled up his sleeve, and cleaned the inside of his elbow with an alcohol wipe before drawing a sample of his own blood, watching the dark liquid fill the vacutainer. Once he had enough he didn't waste any time testing his sample against Parker's. His heart was beating fast as he watched the two samples merge, pull close, then mirror each other as they multiplied.

Hinato wasn't checking whether he and Parker were genetically related. What the results told him was something else entirely. Parker was a hybrid Lykosian, but the question was with what other shifter sect.

"I need to test more."

Until next time
